LSCT Explores New Technologies in Training

A delegation from LSCT traveled to Rotterdam to test advanced technologies and deepen industry best practices in preparation for the future developments of the La Spezia terminal.

A Team of key figures from the Technical-Operational and Safety departments of La Spezia Container Terminal recently visited the training center at the ECT Hutchison Port container terminal in Maasvlakte-Rotterdam. The goal was to create an opportunity for discussion and exchange of best operational practices, with a focus on crane operator training and the adoption of new technologies in this field.
During the visit, the LSCT team had the opportunity to test an advanced simulator that faithfully replicates real operational yard conditions. This simulator allows future operators to gain experience in a controlled environment, reducing the risk of potential harm to people, goods, and equipment. Thanks to progressive learning protocols, the tool enables trainees to face increasingly complex and structured scenarios, including docks, different types of vessels, and loading plans.
Additionally, the simulator cabin is connected to a control console that allows instructors to monitor driving performance in real-time. Instructors can adjust environmental variables such as weather conditions and visibility while tracking key parameters like speed and load trajectory.

“The experience was enriched by the professionalism and hospitality of the ECT Hutchison Ports team. It was a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of advanced training tools and look ahead to the future of our staff training. We closely observe these innovations to assess their potential adoption in our terminals. Thanks to these digital training technologies, the learning process is accelerated and independent of operational crane usage. Moreover, operators can tackle complex scenarios safely, preparing themselves optimally for any real-life situation,” stated Alessandro Pellegri, Chief Operating Officer of LSCT.

With its ongoing commitment to innovation, LSCT continues to invest in improving terminal operations and training, aiming to enhance its standards of safety and efficiency.
