Oceanogate purchases a new shunting locomotor Oceanogate Italia expands its railway engines fleet with a new shunting locomotor. Oceanogate Italia, the Contship Italia Group subsidiary which provides shunting and long-distance rail traction services in the Group’s terminals within the Contship intermodal network, recently purchased a new CZ LOKO 741 shunting locomotor. The CZ LOKO 741 is a four-axel shunting locomotor with a semi-central cab and an axial weight of 18 tons, powered by a modern Caterpillar 3508 diesel engine, capable of delivering 1000kW of energy and compliant with the current emissions-control regulations. Specifically, the diesel-electric transmission optimizes the performance and provides excellent reliability and systems redundancy. The modern design of the locomotor also improves the comfort and the safety of the operators, with a tidy and ergonomic cab. “We have high expectations, which go beyond the technical specifications, such as the performance and the reliability of this new equipment. We still can’t move away from diesel engines, but we are committed to reducing as much as possible our environmental footprint. These new locomotors achieve a higher efficiency along the whole traction chain, which in turn enables remarkable fuel savings and a reduction of the environmental footprint. Another relevant benefit of these new railway engines is the noise control, both inside the cab and around the locomotor, due to the reduction of acoustic emissions, compared to older diesel engines.” – comments Pellegrino Verruso, Oceanogate Italia General Manager.
