LSCT strengthens connections with the East Coast

CMA CGM Endurance lands at La Spezia, deployed on the new Amerigo, the service that consolidates the terminal’s transatlantic routes and strengthens LSCT’s strategic role in the North Tyrrhenian

La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) has welcomed the CMA CGM Endurance, the French company’s first unit to call the Port of La Spezia as part of the Amerigo service, operated in partnership with COSCO, OOCL, ONE and YML. The modern Maltese-flagged container ship, to be launched in 2024, boasts a nominal capacity of 7,500 TEUs and is powered by LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), a choice that reflects CMA CGM’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, both at sea and during port stops.

The arrival of the CMA CGM Endurance represents an important upgrade for LSCT by activating a direct weekly connection to the East Coast of the United States, serving the ports of New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Miami, with further optimized transit times.

Peter Robino, Head of Commercial Maritime Terminals, and Sara Fuliano, Key Account Manager of Contship Italia, welcomed the ship and its captain, Popa Virgil Costel, for the traditional presentation of the commemorative crest.

“We proudly see the consolidation of connections with the U.S. East Coast markets. As of today, La Spezia is the only North Tyrrhenian gateway with direct connections to all three shores of the continent: namely the West Coast, the Gulf region, and precisely the East Coast. With the new Amerigo, it can boast of an even more first-rate, extremely competitive and reliable product,” said Peter Robino, head of Commercial Maritime Terminals at Contship Italia.

Robino also highlighted how this new port of call testifies to the terminal’s steady growth and consolidation of partnerships with major global maritime carriers, who see LSCT as the ideal partner in terms of integrated offerings, sea and land with the wide choice of intermodal services.
