Gemini Chooses LSCT as the Italian gateway connecting the Far East and the Mediterranean
La Spezia Container Terminal Welcomes AE11/SE2 with the First Italian Call of the Asia-Mediterranean Service Operated by the Gemini Alliance
On Tuesday, April 8, the La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) hosted the inaugural call of the AE11/SE2 service, marking a significant milestone for Italy. The MV Maersk Camden, one of 12 container ships deployed for this service, officially launched the Asia-Mediterranean route in Italy.
This event underscores LSCT’s strategic role within the Gemini network—a partnership between Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd—which positions La Spezia as the first Italian port in the northern Tyrrhenian rotation.
The Maersk Camden docked at Fornelli East Pier, which recently resumed operations following a brief pause for consolidation works. This pier is designated for handling calls from the Far East. Under the Liberian flag, the vessel began its rotation in Qingdao, China, and commenced quay operations immediately upon docking, completing them as scheduled on April 10.

Peter Robino, Head of Commercial Maritime Terminals of Contship Italia commented: “Being the first Italian port of call for the AE11/SE2 service is an important recognition for La Spezia. This demonstrates Gemini’s trust in LSCT’s operational capabilities and efficiency while reaffirming our strategic position and added value for domestic markets, both in imports and exports. This recognition is further strengthened by an ongoing visit from a Maersk Line delegation from Algeciras to our offices. Their visit aims to meet our commercial and operational teams and explore new synergies with Contship Group.”

Onboard the ship, the customary crest handover ceremony was held in the presence of Commander Roman Vostrikov, along with Peter Robino and Sara Fuliano, Key Account Manager of Contship, accompanied by Pablo Perez Ceron, Robert Percic, Paola Pastorino, and Manuela Viale from Maersk Line, marking the completion of a memorable visit to LSCT.
