La Spezia greets the breakthrough of Gemini as Maersk Northwood moors alongside LSCT.
Berthed on arrival on February 11th, the call marks the start of the new shuttle service E14 / WM3, jointly run by Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd under the Gemini cooperation.
Maersk Northwood was operated alongside La Spezia Container Terminal’s (LSCT) Garibaldi East berth in the afternoon of February 11, de facto marking the official commencement of the new network in the port of La Spezia.
With 57 services running the network worldwide, Gemini seeks to enhance the efficiency of maritime transport, leveraging the reliability of its product offering.
The ship underwent operations as expected, terminating container handling the next day without delay. Deployed in the shuttle service E14 / WM3, Maersk Northwood continued its journey westbound, heading towards the hub of Tanger as per the scheduled rotation.
In line with a long and appreciated tradition, during operations, captain Alahi and his crew were presented by Contship Italia commercial team, LSCT Operational Management, and Andrea Laviosa from the local maritime agency with the customized crest of LSCT, a memento to cherish this important happening.

“We are beyond proud to see Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd strengthen their presence in La Spezia. As Contship Group, we are convinced that the professionalism of our team, the offer of integrated services such as intermodality, and the synergic contribution of all the operators of the La Spezia system, offer a significant added value to the maritime networks that call at our docks. And Gemini’s choice confirms our trust, not only with this shuttle string, but also with the deep-sea Asia Med service expected to call from the end of March” said Peter Robino, Sales and Business Development Manager of Contship.
La Spezia Container Terminal, amid the latest addition in the portfolio of services handled, upholds its role as a strategic gateway in the North Tyrrhenian for global trade flows: total throughput handled in 2024 by LSCT at 1.123.602 TEU. So far in 2025, positive trends recorded, with 24% growth year on year as of January 31st.
