Hannibal invests in new equipment for operations at the Port of La Spezia
A significant investment in state-of-the-art port tractors aims to enhance efficiency in internal shuttle operations at the La Spezia port.
Hannibal, the Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO) of Contship Italia Group, has recently acquired 15 high-performance port tractors. These vehicles will update and expand the fleet of ground services dedicated to Hannibal’s internal shuttle operations at the La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT).
The tractors are Terberg YT223 models, with a total of 15 units delivered in two batches – the first at the end of 2024 and the second in March 2025 – all of which are now operational.
These new vehicles will further improve the Group’s performance at the La Spezia Terminal, particularly in terms of precision and efficiency of port operations. They feature an integrated fuel-saving mode that optimizes consumption based on the weight being moved. The towing capacity exceeds 100 tons, ensuring high performance under all operating conditions. All tractors are equipped with the Terberg Connect system, allowing constant monitoring of the vehicle’s status, usage statistics generation, and detailed performance analysis, enhancing terminal management and efficiency.
The vehicles are supplied by Manuport, a direct subsidiary of the Terberg group in Italy, which supports the Contship Group with dedicated sales and maintenance services, ensuring maximum fleet operability and reliability.

“Beyond maximizing operational efficiency in the terminal, we want to provide our yard operators with the best working conditions. The driver’s cabin is designed to ensure greater visibility and comfort for operators, thanks to acoustic insulation, air conditioning, and a passenger seat for personnel training”, commented Stefano Morelli, Chief Operations Officer of Intermodal of Contship Group.
“This investment is part of a broader series of projects and initiatives aimed at making the terminal an increasingly modern and efficient structure. These include updating ground equipment and handling machinery, developing and training personnel, implementing new technologies, and constructing additional facilities within the terminal“, stated Alessandro Pellegri, COO of LSCT.

The supply is part of a consolidated collaboration with the supplier. It includes, in addition to the units destined for the La Spezia terminal, the delivery of another 104 units of the YT223 4X2 model for the new terminal of the Contship Group in Damietta, Egypt. This terminal, resulting from the collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd, Eurogate, and Contship Italia, is currently under development and will be operational from July 2025.
