Hannibal announces a new intermodal service between Italy and The Netherlands
The enhancement of the intermodal network by Contship continues with the connection between Melzo and the Moerdijk terminal, aimed at strengthening commercial relations between the two countries.
Hannibal, the MTO of the Contship Group, inaugurates the new intermodal service from A2B-online that will connect the Rail Hub Milano terminal in Melzo with Moerdijk in the Netherlands.
This new connection will initially feature three weekly services, with plans to increase to four round trips starting in April 2025. The rail traction within the national territory will be operated by Oceanogate, a company within the Contship Group.
“This connection represents an important step in strengthening trade relations between the Netherlands and Italy, perfectly aligning with our goal of optimizing our customers’ supply chains,” stated Andrea Spagnuolo, Sales & Business Development Manager of Contship.
The choice of the Moerdijk terminal is strategic: with over 40 km of roads, 35 km of railways, and five different modes of transport, it confirms its status as a significant multimodal hub, also due to its potential for relays to various destinations in the United Kingdom.
The service will not only ensure rapid transit times but also provide a more sustainable alternative to road transport, contributing to a reduction in CO2 emissions. With this initiative, Hannibal continues to respond to the evolving market needs and strengthens its position as a reliable partner in international freight transport.
