Terminal Container Ravenna supporting essential fruit and vegetable supply-chain In this uncertainty, Terminal Container Ravenna (TCR) confirms its role as a fundamental logistical platform for one of the key sectors for the production and consumption of fruit and vegetables.   Despite the difficult period the global economy is currently experiencing, logistics is one of the key processes in support of the production chains, particularly for essential and perishable goods. TCR, in this period of uncertainty, confirms its role as one a strategic platform for the flow of fresh goods. Thanks to its excellent connections with the main markets in the eastern Mediterranean (Turkey, Israel, Egypt and Cyprus) offering competitive transit times, the importance of TCR is growing as a key hub for the flow of fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables and seafood, connecting and supplying the Italian and European markets. Over 16,000 tons of goods carried in 600 x 40ft hi-cube refrigerated containers containing potatoes, oranges and onions have landed at TCR since early April, where, after discharge are then efficiently and quickly transloaded to refrigerated trucks, thereby offering a rapid and complete service to deliver goods to European markets within only 5 days from the day of departure of the ship from the port of origin. As a demonstration of the increased demand for this type of cargo, TCR also welcomed an additional call of a service that connects Ravenna with Egypt every week. TCR staff is now recognized as a team specializing in the handling of this type of extremely time sensitive goods and is able to coordinate port and logistics operations by interfacing directly with all stakeholders in the ‘value’ chain. These results are in fact only achievable thanks to the teamwork involving highly specialized port and logistics operators in Ravenna such as DCS Tramaco, an internationally renowned operator who has been devoted to the growth of the import of perishable products through the port of Ravenna. “The combination of expertise and coordinated efforts continues to allow goods to arrive safely and on time, in the shops throughout Italy and other European markets at the right price, is a great achievement particularly during such a difficult and challenging time” said Alessandro Battolini, Sales & Business Development Manager, TCR. Furthermore, since April Ravenna is now offering rail connections with southern, northern Europe and the UK through Hannibal, the wholly owned intermodal division of the Contship Italia Group.
